The new movie, “Hoppers”, from Disney’s Pixar was released in theaters March 6 . This movie was definitely hopping, not only is it funny but it also tells a great message about habit destruction and how it affects the animals. The movie follows the main character Mable and how she is trying to save the Forest Glade from being destroyed for the Mayor’s project by putting a road through it.
“Hoppers” does feel like a Pixar movie in the way of telling a message while making you laugh. The real message of the movie in my opinion is habitat protection, it shows the mayor putting a road through a forest glade where Mable, the protagonist’s grandma, lived. Mable is trying to convince the mayor to stop the project because of the animals that lived there, just to find they have all left.
I believe that habit destruction is a big issue happening in today’s world and as shown in the movie not many people seem to care about the issue. The movie also does a great job in explaining animal topics such as key stone species which in this movie are the beavers, and if Mable can get a beaver back to the Glade to build a dam, the other animals will come back. If you haven’t seen the full concept of the movie, “Hoppers” is what some scientists call robot animals that humans can put their brain into like Mable does with a robot beaver.
Mable does it to get a beaver back to the Glade so the road won’t be put up because if there were animals there it wouldn’t be allowed. The mayor wouldn’t be allowed by the town to build the road.
I did enjoy the comedy in the movie, I especially like all the little funny points where a random character or side character says something funny after something weird or big happens. I also loved how the main goals of the protagonist and antagonist shifted from resentment between each other, to working together towards a common goal. Like how Mayor Jerry seems to be the antagonist at the start then towards the end the insect king seems to be the antagonist.
At the start it was Mable trying to save the forest glade and the person against her was Jerry, who is the mayor of Beaverton. However, toward the end of the movie, the antagonist shifted to the insect king trying to take out humans the same way the humans did to the animals. Mable and Jerry have to work together to save the people of Beaverton. The message of working together even though you may disagree is also a great message of the film.
Overall, I would watch the film again once it comes out on Disney+. I give “Hoppers” an 8/10.
