On Dec. 3rd, Lil Baby dropped an album titled “The Leaks.” When the news that this album had dropped, many fans were excited to finally be able to listen to these songs in their final form and in the best quality. Before, they had just been snippets, or unreleased projects fans had been craving.
The title speaks for itself, as almost all of these songs in one way or another have been leaked, via certain snippets of a song or even a couple songs which have been fully released online and listened to by many already. However, in most of these leaks, you could not hear the full song or it did not sound the best due to the fact it was not completely finished.
Lil Baby has released 4 full studio albums, however this album is considered a mixtape and a compilation project crafted by previously leaked songs and unreleased material used all together.
The past two Lil Baby studio albums, “WHAM” and “Its Only Me,” both managed to reach number one on the billboard charts within a week and were on fire. Unlike those two albums, “The Leaks” has only managed to reach around number 17 on the national billboard charts after being released for a little more than a week. Although this album did not reach the same level his past major albums have, it’s still a relatively great album with some really well produced songs.
This album contains a total tracklist of 15 songs, which all together combine to a total of 42 minutes of listening. Some songs fans might find very familiar at first listen are “Let’s Do It” and “Otha Boy” as those have already been widely appreciated online by those who have listened to the leaked songs and have been waiting patiently for this album to drop.
Lil baby is known for his flow and delivery all throughout his songs, along with some great lyrical moments. He sets the tone in this album by beginning with “Mrs. Trendsetter,” which maintains a very catchy tone throughout the song and has a great chorus, which makes it an amazing opener for this album.
However, the next song is what I believe to be one of the best songs on the whole album, titled “Guaranteed.” While Lil Baby managed to keep this song simple, “Guaranteed” still has one of the best sounding beats on this album, and he stays on rhythm and in sync with it the whole time, combining together for a great song.
Another song that stood out to me in this album was “Forever Slime.” This song stayed very consistent throughout. From the beginning to the end of the song, it had my full attention with a nice beat that maintained a very well developed flow, along with the way Lil Baby is able to rap over it which overall made for a great song.
“What She Like,” was another song I found very amusing, and others have so far as well, as it is his 3rd most streamed song on this album, per spotify streaming records.
One of the things Lil Baby has done best is create songs with popular artists many love, and collaborate to make something great. One of the most anticipated songs on this album was “Let’s Do It,” which featured Playboi Carti and Skooly. “Let’s Do It” was a song that was leaked prior to this album release. The song is very catchy and at first begins with this interesting, playful chorus that sets the entire vibe for the song. Playboi Carti then begins his verse, which was very good, along with Lil Baby’s and Skoolys, as they all combined to make a trendy song.
Lil Baby continued his trend of featuring other popular rappers and we see this on his song, “Get Along.” This song included a total of three other rappers on it, with Lucki, Lil Yachty and Veeze. This song provides a super chill vibe all throughout, which you do not usually hear in a Lil Baby album, however it was still an interesting song that made for great listening.
Overall, I would rate this album a 9/10. The things Lil baby did a great job on were his features and finally releasing the songs his fans have been waiting for. A lot of these songs sounded just like old Lil Baby when he was dropping number one albums every year which made this album great. The only thing that held this album back is the fact that along of these songs have been heard before, and that some of these songs were just throwaways from his previous album. But nonetheless, this album was great.
