With fall and winter seasons quickly approaching, many students are transitioning their wardrobes from summer styles, and bundling up for the chilly weather to come.
Whether it is cozying up in leggings, sweaters and fuzzy socks, or wearing jeans, boots and cardigans, the cooler days ahead will bring about a large change in the fashion trends. Some of the up-and-coming autumn styles include scarves, boots, leather and plaid.
Senior Riley Brown looks forward to the fall season because it is a great time to wear clothes that are both comfy and cute.
“My winter outfits usually consist of leggings, sweaters, boots and beanies,” Brown said. “But, I also love to wear big, comfy sweatshirts.”
Maroon and black are popular colors for fall time, but a new combination of pastel colors are a surprising twist to the usual darker toned shades. Pale pinks and light blues are some examples of softer hues that would add a splash of color to any outfit.
Junior Camilla Griggs enjoys feeling cozy in the crisp times of autumn, and goes to stores like Pac Sun to buy new attire as the weather cools down. “In the fall, I like to wear boots, boot socks, leggings and sweaters,” Griggs said. “For my go to statement piece though, I’d have to go with a watch.”
Flannels are also great way to keep warm, while adding a casual feel to any outfit. Army green jackets are nice pieces to layer on over a neutral sweater and pair with jeans and combat boots. Also, floppy hats are a rising trend this season, adding to the list of fashionable accessories for autumn.
Not only do girls’ wardrobes transition as the weather transitions, but so do boys’ closets. Popular trends for boys this fall are sweatshirts, joggers, jeans, baseball tees and button ups.
Freshman Will Anderson likes to style his winter outfits that usually include a hoodie, a jacket, jeans and vans, or for more dressy occasions, Clarks.
“Both (seasons) have good things. Summer is nice because you can just wear shorts and a t-shirt, but winter you can dress up a little bit,” Anderson said.
Junior Keaton Dougherty wears his converse for casual outfits, but enjoys sporting his oxfords when he wants to be a bit more dressy and look nice.
“My go to store is H&M because it’s cheap and has lots to choose from,” Dougherty said.
“(Also) Uniqlo, which is a new store that started online that now has stores in the Bay Area and New York, has very affordable basic clothing that is nice quality.”
Dougherty’s go to clothing item for the fall and winter time is a black down jacket from Uniqlo, which he says is affordable and super comfortable.
The most popular styles for this fall are scarves, sweaters, long cardigans, leggings, warm knit socks, boots and light jackets such as cargo or jean.
Senior Tana MacPherson shops at places Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters and American Eagle for her fall and winter wardrobes as the temperatures start dropping.
“I love fall and winter weather so much because you get to layer with all the cute fall colored clothes,” MacPherson said. “We have the chance to wear our boots and scarves that we don’t usually get to wear in the warmer months.”
