  • Cherine Kim, a freshman at Granite Bay High School, is wearing an outfit she would usually wear on a typical day. Most of her inspiration is from Pinterest and her mom. She enjoys the light academia aesthetic as well as Korean Fashion. Fashion hasn’t always been something she was interested in. “Maybe since, like, two years ago,” said Kim when asked about her interest in fashion. Kim does get compliments from people who like her outfit, but not too regularly.

  • Karleigh Osenbaugh, a sophomore at Granite Bay High School, decided to layer a neutral colored shirt with a black skirt, one of her signature colors. “I wanted to keep the grunge (aesthetic) but also introduce fall since it was the first day,” said Osen when describing her outfit. She also enjoys wearing schoolgirl, preppy, soft girl and alternative outfits, as well as skirts, cute sweaters, etc. Her style is quite fluid, sometimes wearing brown, dark brown, black and grey, but also brighter colors like white, bright pink and blue. Melanie Martinez is one fashion icon that Osen looks up to. “I like her usage of pastel colors. She used a lot of Renaissance dress styles like cage skirts and ruffles, but still incorporated the pastels and baby doll style,” said Osen. Osen has always been interested in fashion. Ever since she was a kid, she wore weird outfits like neon with cheetah print. “But, as I’ve grown and developed with the internet, my style changed a lot. I used to like soft aesthetics with pink and white but I’ve definitely had grunge and alternative grow on me, I feel like it’s more my style,” said Osen. Osen is always excited to dress up for school and leave an impression on people. Many of her friends and random people compliment her.

  • Students express themselves through style, consisting of shoes, hair and etc.

  • Sophia Nassif, a freshman at Granite Bay High School, decided to wear neon clothing in honor of Candyland day on campus. “I try to go all out sometimes, I’m really into school spirit,” said Nassif. Her outfit consisted of athletic wear along with lots of color. “I have tennis after school which is why I wore this along with a headband that I really like. They add a lot to the outfit.” said Nassif. “The blue gummy bear earrings also go along with the Candyland theme.” In the past, Nassif hadn’t always been interested in fashion. Up to 6th grade, her outfits usually consisted of leggings and athletic wear. “In seventh grade, I started wearing actual jeans and t-shirts. When I got to eight grade, I stated to be myself and realized that I didn’t care what anyone thought of me,” said Nassif. Most of Nassif’s outfit inspo comes from Pinterest and influencers with a colorful and unique sense of style. Her style and aesthetic is quite fluid, but is usually cottage core and y2k. “I love cottagecore, but nothing super floral, as well as nice pastel colors. Y2K is my favorite aesthetic because of low-waisted and flare jeans” said Nassif. As Nassif started to upgrade her style, more and more people started to compliment her.

  • Gray Cheney, a freshman at Granite Bay High School, wanted to dress masculine to fit how she felt that day. “I wanted to express that I was feeling more masculine because that’s the way society usually views people,” said Cheney. Along with the masculinity of her outfit, she wanted to incorporate an emo look into her style. Her overall interest in fashion began when she was a little kid, drawing people in outfits, but began to endure the hardships of finding who she really was. “I struggle with self identity,” said Cheney. “I don’t want to be basic because most people are, so it’s hard to be unique. One way to do this is to change your appearance to stand out more”. Most of Cheney’s fashion inspo comes from her sister, cosplayers on TikTok and alt (alternative) people. Cheney’s style usually flows around the bohemian boho chic style, Lolita, miscellaneous and different types of character. Everybody is really nice to Cheney and compliments her on her outfits.
