This past Friday, I watched the “Freakier Friday” movie and genuinely enjoyed it. Experiencing this movie in theaters is a great opportunity to spend time with family, especially your mom or grandma.
Director Nisha Ganataras’ new movie, “Freakier Friday”, was released on August 8. This movie has been performing pretty well since its release, with a domestic gross of $29 million and a global debut of $44.5 million in the first week. So far it’s been a hit, and most audiences seem to enjoy it.
Like the original film made in 2003, this sequel centers around two moms, and two daughters. Tess and Anna, who are the mothers, and Harper and Lily, who are the daughters. While at a bachelorette party, Tess and Anna see a fortune teller. They all end up in a four-body switch, stirring up the main plot. The film takes place in a very modern-day setting.
One of the surprising things they did well in the movie was their sense of humor. There was a nice amount of jokes spread throughout the movie, and they did a good job not making it sound forced.
Another thing they did well was the plot of the story. They did a good job of focusing on that throughout the story. With some of the parts having the characters panicking about what to do, but the other parts with them having fun with their new “bodies.”
The acting was fairly normal in this movie, there weren’t any super crazy scenes needed, but it wasn’t a downside. However, the biggest downside was how long it was for a pretty basic plot. At times, it felt like they were dragging some things longer than they should have, leading to it being repetitive and boring at times. The move was 1 hour and 54 minutes long, which may not seem long- until you watch it.
This movie is rated PG for mostly everybody, but I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone.
I wouldn’t recommend it to boys, especially teenage boys. I found that a lot of moms really liked to watch this movie, according to some of the reviews online. They were able to find a lot of nostalgia throughout the plot with the moms reliving their teenage life. I’m sure a lot of mothers can find comfort in their teenage years and reminiscing on the past, making this movie special.
A lot of people seem to have enjoyed it, however, personally, I would give it a 5/10. I didn’t fit the audience criteria for this movie, and it was a little boring. But this movie does seem like a movie meant for a lot of people, so I think if you want to spend time with your mom, you should give this a try.
