The senior parking spot is very important to some seniors for their last year at Granite Bay High School. Closer parking to the school and reserved just for them, senior parking spots are normally year-long for the seniors’ last year at Granite Bay.
The way to have a chance to have a senior parking spot would be to fill out a Google form and fill out a packet, which would be turned in on the student’s designated parking selection day, along with the 50 dollars. The packets were found outside the student government rooms.
Only 116 parking spots are reserved for seniors this year. This year’s seniors get their parking spot for the fall semester; then, there will be a new group of seniors for the spring semester. The new policy now has the seniors paying 50 dollars instead of 80 dollars.
When Grant Ledger, a senior at GBHS, was asked how he feels about the new policy, he said, “I think it sucks not being able to have my spot for the whole year, but I do believe that it’s fair to others who can get a second chance to get a parking spot.” Ledger said that he wishes he could keep his spot year-round, “Yes, I definitely wish I could keep it for the whole year since it is much more productive for me.” Since it is closer to campus, the parking spots are one of the many benefits for the seniors.
Additionally, more seniors feel the same way about this new policy. When Miguel Awais, a senior at GBHS, was asked how he feels about the new policy, he said, “This new policy is not good, and I wish we could have our spots for the whole year. When all of the juniors and sophomores start getting their license, the parking lot gets full, and I would still have my spot for both semesters.” Awais, when asked if he would pay 80 dollars for his spot for the entire school year, said, “I would have paid 80 dollars, even 100 dollars for my spot.” This spot is easily accessible to the school for the seniors, and there would be less after-school traffic.
Even Ledger said something similar to Awais when asked if he would pay the 80 dollars for the parking spot the entire year. Ledger said, “I would have definitely paid the 80 dollars for the spot year-round because I can sleep in more and get out of the parking lot faster for the whole year.”
However, when Julia Lorena Mendoza Saldana was asked if she would rather switch her fall semester spot to the spring semester, she said, “It would be motivating to come during the spring semester with a guaranteed spot, but I like my spot now.” Having the spot, she admits, is good right now, since she would have kept it in the fall instead of ending the year with the spot.
Many GBHS seniors want to make their last year memorable by having a parking spot to end the year, instead of having it only for one semester. This new policy gives more seniors a chance to get a spot and remember their senior year.
