Roblox remains one of the most popular gaming platforms among children, attracting millions of users worldwide daily. However, behind the vibrant interface and cheerful atmosphere lies a disturbing reality: the company continues to face challenges protecting minors due to lax enforcement, insufficient safeguards against predators within its own safety policies.
In August 2025, the Louisiana Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the company of violating its own child protection policies. This case has once again raised the question: are large tech companies truly doing everything they can to protect young users from online dangers?
For many parents, the main problem is the anonymity that allows predators to easily pose as peers.
Natasha Cattolico, GBHS English Language Development and English teacher and the mother of an eight-year-old, said she strictly monitors how much time and where her son spends it on the computer.
“When he’s on the computer, he sits at the kitchen table, where I can see what he’s doing,” Cattolico said. “I don’t allow him to access platforms like Roblox without my supervision. Anonymity makes it impossible to know who’s really communicating with the child.”
She explained that currently, her son only has access to educational websites approved by the school or his parents. Later, when he’s older, she plans to discuss with him how to recognize dangerous or predatory behavior online.
Cattolico also believes that responsibility for children’s safety should be shared between parents and tech companies.
“Companies have a responsibility to protect children, but parents also have a responsibility to monitor what their children are doing online and talk to them about it,” she said.
Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of government regulation.
“It’s like protecting children from cigarette advertising,” she said. “Games like Roblox are addictive and can put children in danger. Regulation is necessary.”
Distrust of Roblox is also growing among GBHS students.
Marko Khuryanov, a sophomore at GBHS and former Roblox blogger, expressed surprise at the situation.
“I am surprised by what happened, and I completely condemn those who allowed it,” he said. “Roblox’s security system needs to be improved. They need to implement real age verification, for example, through ID.”
He added that he supports the new security measures, but it is important that the company actually implements them.
“These changes will help improve child protection, and I fully support them,” Khuryanov said.
Despite Roblox’s apologies and promises, the trust of users and parents remains eroded. The company has made similar promises several times in recent years, but there have been few noticeable improvements.
Today, experts, parents and players agree on one thing: online safety is a shared responsibility. Companies must improve their security systems, and parents must remain attentive and engaged to ensure the digital world is truly safe for children.
