The French language is known for its elegance and timelessness, and here at Granite Bay High the school offers French Classes all the way up to Honors French. I plan to take French 1 next semester. Of course knowing any second language is an advantage, but what are the advantages of learning French? A student and staff member at GBHS gave Granite Bay Today give you their insight on the perks to learning this language.
Lexie Gordon, a sophomore at GBHS, was asked what she thinks the benefits of learning French are. She responded with,
“A benefit of speaking French is the ability to make further connections in the future and in school now. There are lots of French words that we use in English writing that elevates the professional tone needed in work environments.” Gordon added,
“There are also many future careers that involve extensive English writing skills and many companies that are French/American or American/Canadian, (as French is one of Canada’s official languages) and being able to have the ability to connect to fellow employees and bosses is necessary to succeed in a work environment.”
Madame Genève; a French 2 teacher at GBHS, was asked about the benefits of speaking French. Genève responded, “You’re always going to benefit from another language. Specifically, [French] can also help you in school, because 40% of your English comes from French.” Genève then gave some advice on resources for learning French outside of school.
“Watch movies, expose yourself to language.” she added,
“French films are particularly great, because they don’t follow the same sort of mold.”
