Grizzlies keep playoff hopes alive with 3-0 win
GBHS girls advance to the second round against Turlock High School on Thursday
On Oct. 31, the Granite Bay High School girls volleyball team faced off against Rodriguez High School of Fairfield for the first round of the CIF San-Joaquin D1 playoffs. Granite Bay is the sixth seed in the playoff bracket, while Rodriguez is seeded 11th.
In the first game of the match, senior player Carly Wallace earned the first point for the Grizzlies. This was followed by several scorings for both teams. At time of the timeout, the score was 18-14, Granite Bay.
“If we lost the game, we’d be done completely with our season,” Wallace said.
The Grizzlies quickly pulled ahead, leading with a score of 25-16 by the end of the first game. High fives of support and encouragement circled through the court with each point earned by Granite Bay.
The second game came with strong performances by both Granite Bay and Rodriguez, the Grizzlies leading several points ahead of the Mustangs throughout.
At the time out, the score was 13-9, Granite Bay.
The second game of the match ended with a score of 25-20, the Grizzlies still pushing forward.
In the final game, both Granite Bay and Rodriguez started strong, with a score of 7-3 in the first few minutes.
With a series of points earned by Granite Bay, the Grizzlies led by 14-6 at the time out.
At the conclusion of the final match, Granite Bay led 25-17.
The strength and teamwork shown throughout the match contributed to a 3-0 Granite Bay win.
The Grizzlies will move onto the next round of playoffs on Thurs. Nov. 2, playing number three seeded Turlock High School.
