Students from electives like drama, student government, band, and media came back to school in July to support their elective by helping out at camps and retreats.
Drama: The Drama department held a camp for fifth to seventh graders for them to see what it’s like to put on a show. The children had to produce the Little Mermaid. Students who are a part of drama had the opportunity to help out the camp over the summer.
“I just thought it’d be a fun experience to see how kids interact.” Iman Tahir, a 12th grader at Granite Bay High School, said. “It was really fun to see how so many different people can come together and create one magical show.”
Student Government: Student Government held their 2024 mandatory retreat. Students who are in or want to be in Student Government come to the retreat.
“So we do things like lessons, leadership lessons and fun games. And I chose to do that last year as my first year being a leader. I mean, it is a mandatory retreat,” Bella Simmons, the Senior ASB president said. “We don’t have much of a choice. But obviously we want to be there, and we want to be doing that.”
Media: The Media Class held their first Summer Media Camp. Kids going into 7th, 8th, and 9th grade attend the camp. The campers could learn how to use the equipment and how to edit videos.
“Everyone is kind of just doing their own thing, and they’re all working independently. And I can also manage other people, which I think is a cool opportunity,” Jayden Theuriet a Senior at Granite Bay said.
Band: Band did their annual band camp. All band students from freshman to senior year attend this camp.
“The band is a camp to help prepare for the marching season, so it kind of gives you a head start for the marching season to improve and get better.” Noah Hartford, a sophomore at Granite Bay High School said, “It is a big help for the marching season.”
