Amre Abumarkhieh, Staff Writer

Amre is a sophomore, and this is his first year on the Gazette staff.

Amre Abumarkhieh, a sophomore at GBHS, is one of the most interesting people I have ever met.  I think you’re going to want to meet him too.

For starters, Amre is Palestinian, and is very connected to his culture.

“My mom makes cultural food, I sometimes speak Arabic and I partake in Palestinian culture,” Abumarkhieh said.

With Abumarkhieh being Palestinian, he has also traveled to a lot of other countries.

“I’ve been to France, Spain, Turkey, Jordan, Austria and Germany,” said Abumarkhieh.

He has also been to more that he can’t remember.

“Traveling is super fun because you get to explore different places, cultures and environments every place you go,” Abumarkhieh said.

When I was researching Abumarkhieh I found he had done swimming in the past.

“I swim, it's one of my favorite sports. I played soccer and I started playing water polo," Abumarkhieh said.  He also wants to try and play tennis.

With Amre doing all these sports, he also is in advanced journalism. I asked him what he likes about the class and why he takes it.

“I like journalism because your not necessarily a student just doing work to get a grade, you have to uphold your duty like you’re an employee with responsibilities," Abumarkhieh said. "You also get to talk about things that haven’t been brought up to the surface so much, so I’d like to bring light to some topics that not many people know about.”

Since Abumarkhieh likes journalism and is serious about it, that raises the question — what does he want to do when he gets older?

“I’d like to work as a doctor in the medical field,” Abumarkhieh said.
