“Beekeeper” is buzzing throughout the theaters as one of the newest movies of 2024.
On Jan. 12 2024, “Beekeeper” hit the theaters becoming the newest action film of the year.
Domestically “Beekeeper” has made over $30 million, while pulling in over $70 million worldwide. The film has received a Rotten Tomato score of 71% while also pulling in a 93% audience score.
The movie stars Jason Statham who plays Adam Clay, a former worker for an undercover organization turned Beekeeper. The movie kicks into action after his closest friend and landlord, Mrs. Parker, commits suicide due to an online scam.
Clay then proceeds to go on a revenge tour, hunting down the scam artists that caused Mrs. Parker’s suicide that eventually gets him in trouble with agency’s like the FBI and Secret Service.
One thing I feel this movie did well was how quickly it got into the action, rather than giving almost an hour of backstory like most movies like to do nowadays. It was quick and to the point when it came down to the progression of this movie.
After Clay finds out who is responsible for Mrs. Parker’s suicide he has to go through a numerous amount of obstacles just to get to the next plan of action for his revenge.
The movie showcases the fight scenes very well, they used a lot of Foley to be as descriptive as possible when showcasing the brutality of each fight.
Another thing that I liked about this movie was the use of practical effects that was used during the editing process of the movie.
There weren’t very many moments that needed CGI but I have found that a lot of filming productions tend to overuse CGI which ends up giving the film a horrible look, thankfully that wasn’t the case here.
Something that I didn’t love about this movie was how it ended. After a fast paced action film the director decides to just end the movie with Adam Clay escaping by snorkeling away into the ocean and then it just cuts to black.
There was nothing leaving me on the edge of my seat at the end of the movie. I don’t like how the movie ends at all – I wish there was more substance that made the ending exciting and enjoyable.
All in all, however, this was a solid movie to start the new year. It is everything you could want in an action movie and more. I would rate Beekeeper a 7.5/10. The fight scenes are well made, the filming of the movie is exceptional and it is an exciting watch.
