Leatherby’s family creamery can be located in three different locations, Arden Way, Citrus Heights, and Elk Grove.

I’ve been to plenty of ice cream shops, so I feel that I’m pretty much an expert at this point. I went to the shop with an open mind and an open stomach. 

The exterior was basic blue and white with a large sign with the Leatherby’s trademark.

The interior was beautiful with a retro diner vibe to it, with the blue and white color pattern and a home-y vibe with pictures of the community.

Leatherby’s let me experience what it felt like to be in a community, coming together with great desserts and food.

The menu had a wide variety of ice cream and surprisingly, food options.

The ice cream options had strange yet unique ice cream flavors such as play dough and toasted almonds. As for the sundaes, the menu had plenty of options to satisfy a sweet tooth with sundaes filled to the top of the bowl and melting onto the plate.

The sundae I decided on was a classic on the menu called “Rich’s banana split”. The sundae had chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate, strawberries, pineapple sauce, whipped cream, nuts, a banana, and a cherry.

The overall aesthetic of the sundae was not only pleasing to the eye, but also to my stomach. The way the chocolate flowed throughout the whole sundae reminded me of the chocolate river in the movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and the fresh banana looked as it came off the boat in Sharkboy and Lavagirl.

The taste of the sundae was outstanding with the rich, yet light, chocolate, completing the pineapple sauce and strawberry ice cream. The freshness of the fruit and the homemade ice cream made the sundae delicious, like no other I’ve had before.

The overall experience was amazing. I would describe it similar to a kid in the candy store going crazy, but with ice cream. Not only did the interior make the overall vibe good, but the great people that work there and our community did as well.
