Granite Bay sophomore Jonathan Romeo sprints to the finish line, contributing to the second-place finish by the sophomore boys team.

This past Saturday, the Granite Bay cross country team competed in their second meet of the year: The Lowell Invitational, which took place in Golden Gate Park San Francisco.

The Grizzly runners have had success at this meet in the past, and were looking to continue that against the 84 other high schools this year.

With 247 runners in the second frosh/soph girls heat, the Grizzlies still managed to end up with 11 girls inside the top 50 including a second place finish by freshman Jordan Gotham.

“The meet went very well despite the fact that there were nearly 300 runners in our heat,” sophomore Becca Nelson said.

The frosh/soph girls along with the Sophomore Boys both took second place in their respective heats. Key standouts in all heats included Gavin Vance with a fifth place finish in frosh boys, Jordan Gotham, Kiana Perez and Emily Craven with top ten finishes in frosh/soph girls and Michael Zagaynov with a second place finish in soph Boys.

Along with the runner-up frosh/soph girls and sophomore boys, the freshman boys placed seventh, varsity girls placed fourteenth and varsity boys placed 19th. The full list of results can be found on Athletic.net.

The next meet for our Grizzly cross country squad will take place Wednesday, September 13th at Willow Hills, Folsom which will be the first SFL meet of the season. High expectations will be held as Granite Bay prospered in every league meet last year.
