Kyra Kappos, a freshman in student government helped out with bonfire, spirit week and halftime at the homecoming game and dance.

Kappos participated in homecoming and the bonfire as a member of student government. On Thursday Kappos had to stay at school from 2:35 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Friday she stayed at school from 2:35 p.m. to 1 a.m. Even though the late hours were stressful for her, she loved every bit of it.

Kappos tried to participate in everything going on during homecoming week so she can have a good first experience in high school, instead of sitting around at home.

“Each student government member had to work on their floats, and I believe I worked about 7. I also worked a total of 8 hours at decoration parties for things like the dance and spirit week backdrops,” she said.

Her first homecoming and bonfire were both stressful and fun for Kappos in many different ways.

“Everyone was running on their last bit of energy and was frantic to get things done on time, so that added to the stressed vibe. It was also fun though to see everything come together, which isn’t something everyone gets to experience,” Kappos said.

Kappos joined student government because she wanted to help plan school events and to help create a positive environment on campus. Being on student government was her favorite part to experience everything behind the scenes.

“Yes, it was quite stressful, but really when I look back at on it what really comes to mind is how fun it was getting to be behind the scenes, and to watch it all come together,” she said.

Kappos thinks that everyone should make the most of high school and go to everything you can.

“To give some advice to other Freshmen… just soak it all up! Attend and participate in everything! A lot of people think it’s ‘cool’ to not go to things like the dance and float building, or dress up for spirit week.” Kappos said.
